updates 10/12/07

Wow!!! Has it been awhile or what?

Ok, I just finished Parrotfish and it was wonderful. It's about a transgender female (meaning someone born female but who feels like a boy) who decides to go public with her identity. I thought the author did a splendid job of showing the character as a real person and the situations are real as well (ok, some of it is a little tooo unrealistically nice, but maybe a high school that accepting really does exist somewhere?) I liked it a lot.

Does My Head Look Big in This? is a book about a muslim girl in Australia who has decided to wear the hijab fulltime. The main character is mostly realistic (maybe a little too goody-goody sometimes, but maybe that's just me) and the situations she faces in a hoity toity private school as the sole muslim were handled wonderfully. Read it and tell me what you think.

I also just finished the New Policeman....which is a sort of fairy tale story set in Ireland. A young man who has grown up around music is noticing that there just never seems to be any time for anything is just flying by and no one knows why. He finds out that time is leaking into Faery TirNa'Og and so decides to fix the problem. His is a wonderful journey and a fast read too....really short chapters with bits of music for those musically inclined. If you like stories with fairies and magic, try this one.

That's it for now....but I will be back soon with even more good stuff.
